Mixed Reality (MR) as new technology has been incorporated in the construction process to provide on-site construction assistance, to ensure that the construction process aligns with the design. Builders can install building components precisely by aligning the real object and virtual object.
Spatial sound, also known as 3D audio or immersive audio, is a technique that makes sounds appear as if they’re coming from specific points in space, creating a three-dimensional soundscape. Spatial audio can provide valuable cues about where things are happening in the virtual environment, guiding user attention and promoting interaction.
Mixed reality spatial mapping enables virtual objects to interact with the physical environment, allowing users to perceive and interact with digital content in the context of their surroundings. This integration of virtual and physical elements enhances spatial awareness and immersion in architectural experience.
The workshop aims to explore the intersection of Mixed Reality, Spatial Sound, and Architecture to enhance spatial wayfinding and make accelerated design. By integrating immersive technologies and soundscapes into architectural practice, participants can create more inclusive, accessible, and engaging built environments for users.
Graduated from Chulalongkorn University Bangkok (master) and Universitas Indonesia (bachelor), Greg Gegana is both a practitioner and lecturer in BIM and architecture digital technology related. Upon his return to his home country, he began to teach BIM as a lecturer in Pelita Harapan University since 2015. He mostly contributes to the development of technology in the architecture study program by incorporating the use of technology into his courses. He is also the founder of BIM Consultant Jakarta in 2016 who actively practice in BIM consultations and trainings for various projects and offices. Pushing the advancement of BIM and digital technologies in Indonesia’s AEC industry, he is also a committee member of Indonesia BIM Institute and Certified Instructor for Autodesk.
Jacky Thiodore is an architect and also lecturer living in Jakarta. He studied architecture in Indonesia, and UK, where he graduated from Bartlett B-Pro Programme, University College London. He is currently teaching at Architecture Department, Pelita Harapan University. His speciality covers the use of architectural computation in AEC fields like digital fabrication, building performance, sustainable design, and extended reality. He founded profound computational design practice called Theta Indonesia. The firm has contributed to several strategic projects, such as: ETFE roof for Jakarta International Stadium, ETFE roof for Central Bank of Indonesia, and Shade Structure at Nusantara, New Capital City of Indonesia. He took a role at Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) Banten, served in the division of education programs (2019-2022).
Vania graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture, earning Academic Excellence from Pelita Harapan University in 2023. Prior to completing her degree, she interned at URBAN+ and collaborated with provincial government personnel on a public housing and settlement project aimed at redeveloping MSME spaces. Later, she undertook two modules under ICE Institute scholarship for Agricultural Water Management at Wageningen University and One Health at Alaska Fairbanks University. Recently, she represented Indonesia at the International Forum for Architectural Thesis Design held in Taiwan among other Southeast Asian delegates, showcasing her thesis project on affordances as a design framework for feasible meta- architecture and its value to spatial experience in VR.
Felicia graduated from Pelita Harapan University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2023. Her final project involved creating and designing a virtual room to enhance the cognitive function of elderly individuals. During and after her study time, she was involved in various research and community projects, such as the development of a virtual simulation house for people with low vision and an AR system to assist in building construction. Following her study and work in AEC digital technology fields, she joined BIM Consultant Jakarta working in various BIM projects and becoming BIM mentor for Kampus Merdeka program.
Philip F. Yuan is a professor and associate dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, Honorary Fellow of American Institute of Architecture (Hon. FAIA). He is also the co-founder of DigitalFUTURES Association, a global educational initiative with a particular emphasis on the latest computational design and fabrication technologies, Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Intelligence journal, and founding partner of Archi-Union Architects & Fab-Union Technology. Yuan has served as Thomas Jefferson professor at University of Virginia (2019), the visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2019), and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (2021). He has also served as council member of UIA Professional Practice Commission (PPC).
Yuan was attributed with UIA 2023 The Auguste Perret Prize for Technology in Architecture. His work has been recognized with notable awards, including 2022 AIA Open International | Architecture Honor Award, 2022 Dezeen Award Best Civic Building, 2020 ACADIA Innovative Academic Program Award of Excellence and etc.
Yuan has participated in Venice biennale, Chicago biennale, Milan triennial, Tallin biennale, etc. His works have been collected by MOMA New York City, M+ Hong Kong and Centre National d’art et de Culture Georges Pompidou.
